YOU MAY BE WRONG! An effective press release that grabs the media's attention and compels them to write a story is not easy. Those who have mastered the skill have subtle techniques that come from experience. A lot of people are able to write a press release that looks professional. Unfortunately, being professional does not make your press release get noticed when the media is bombarded by hundreds of press releases each day. It is not only business owners or entrepreneurs that have problems writing their own press releases. I have even had large PR companies submit press releases to us that needed major improvements. Last week, we contacted a number of our customers to check how the response was from their most recent press release. We noticed that our customers that paid us to write their press release had a significantly better response than those who used their own press release. Last week we found two customers that distributed a poorly written
press release and did not get any response at all from the media.
We do not usually do this, but we re-wrote their press release for free
because they could not afford to pay us. Once we re-wrote their press
release they got a huge response. One of them had 6 newspapers contact
them in the first 3 hours. One of those newspapers was The Chicago Tribune (one of the largest papers in the country). It takes experience and skill to look at a organization and find topics for a press release that are interesting. A lot of the best topics for a press release are things that no one has ever thought about. Boring Headline Too Much Information Not Focused
