Small Franchise Gets Huge Publicity on Opening Day

The Success Story of Sleep Over Rover

We plan to write a series of newsletters about our customer’s success stories. Our goal is to provide examples that our customers can learn from.

On April 11, 2006, Sleep Over Rover opened their 5 th location in Los Angeles, California. To announce the grand opening, they hired us to write a press release and distribute it to the Metro LA area. Attached is a copy of the press release.

The new franchise location ended up appearing on two different CBS affiliates in the LA area. Both CBS2 and KCAL9 aired the segment multiple times.

Laurie Graham, the owner of the Los Angeles Franchise said, “About an hour after you called me to let me know you had blasted the SoCal area w/ my press release, I received a call from the local CBS news branch in L.A. They did a story on Sleepover Rover on Good Friday which ran on TWO channels the whole day long, over and over again!”

After a press release has gone out, we have found that it is very important to immediately be available to give interviews. If the media is ready to do a story, they usually do not leave a message or wait for a response, they simply go on to the next story. You must be available and prepared to drop what you are doing and have the media stop by your home or business at a moments notice.

Also, the stories that are most likely to be picked up are unusual or different. In this case, Sleep Over Rover provides a very different solution to a common problem. One of the first things that the media asks themselves is “will our viewers be interested in this story”.

It is important for the press release to be short and to the point. 400 words is perfect. In this case, the press release was 379 words. The purpose of a press release is simply to provide enough information to generate interest and a follow-up from a reporter.

If you need us to look at your next press release and offer suggestions for improvement, email it to us, and we will follow up with a phone call or email. This is a service that we offer at no charge. If you need us to write or make changes to your press release, see the prices online.
